Workshop in Seattle @ Open Books

I'm happy to offer a workshop on compression in prose poetry at Open Books in Seattle's Wallingford neighborhood. This two-part workshop will be held on Sunday, January 20th and Sunday, January 27th from 10-12.

Tiny Boxes, Teeming

Compression forces us to choose wisely, to winnow, to do without. Simultaneously, we celebrate what remains and the surprise that emerges. This two-part course will incorporate strategies for compressing narrative or lyric text into prose poetry. We’ll read samples of brilliant compressed prose poems, practice writing exercises, and read our work aloud or in pairs. There will be homework between the first and second class sessions, so green light some writing time between. Preregistration is required, and the cost is $50 per person. This two-part class will take place at Open Books on January 20 and 27, 10:00 am – noon.
